Ylang Ylang essential oil comes from the Canaga tree which is found in the south sea islands like Mauritius, Tahiti, Seychelles, and The Philippines. Oil is distilled from the flower of the tree to make the oil. The flowers come in pink, mauve, and yellow and only bloom at night. Ylang Ylang, meaning “flower of flowers” in Malayan, has a scent that is intensely sweet with tropical notes and exotic woody undertones.

Ylang Ylang is known to boost mood and energy, as well as relax the nervous system. This results in more joy, aids in self expression, and creates a sense of peace. It favours resolutions of disputes, even those with ourselves. Use it to find serenity within. It is well known for its aphrodisiac qualities as well as being an antidepressant, antiseptic, and may help with lowering blood pressure. It can help balance hormones and is often added to creams to help with dryness.Using Ylang Ylang oil can help bring out a fiery passion. People find its scent soothing, euphoric, and erotic. It can help awaken sexuality, especially the feminine side. It can be used in infertility spells and to increase libido.

Some people may find the scent of Ylang Ylang to be too strong. It can be blended with lemon or bergamot to lighten the fragrance. Adding Ylang Ylang to a diffuser can help bring a sense of calm to the space. Burning it as an incense stick or in a diffuser after an argument is a great way to promote reconciliation. Carnelian largely comes from India, but can also be found all over the world. It was called the 'sunset stone' by the ancient Egyptians because of its fiery hues. Most typically found in an orange to red colour, but it can also range from pink to brown. Carnelian focuses its power on physical vitality. It aids with stimulating muscles and keeping oxygen flowing through the body. This can help with lower back problems as well as flushing out organs to aid with detox. Orange carnelian in particular may help boost fertility and increase libido. Use it to light your own inner fire and explore your sexual power.

Carnelian focuses on the heart and sacral chakra which promotes vitality, creativity, and grounding in the present moment. Warriors once wore carnelian for courage. Today it can be used to encourage us to find new adventures and add fun & spontaneity to our lives. It can give us the motivational boost to create new projects or see new ways of tackling old projects. Use carnelian to free yourself from expectations and try new things. Labradorite

Labradorite is a very high vibrational crystal and is most commonly found in Finland and Canada and its colour appears gray to black until it catches the light. In the right light labradorite will show brilliant flashes of colour ranging from blue, yellow, green, orange and even more rarely as pink or purple.

Labradorite is known as a stone of transformation and “bringer of light” and its two main characteristics are magic and protection. It is a highly mystical stone that connects with the third eye and crown chakra. This helps us connect with our higher selves, the Divine, and other realms. Using it can aid to raise consciousness and connect to universal energies. It can help heal the user from within and assist with enhancing psychic abilities. Use it to aid with journeying to other realms.

Labradorite is highly protective and will deflect unwanted energies from your aura. It helps banish fear amongst current or past lives and leaves you with good thoughts and a positive outlook. Burdock

Burdock is a tenacious wild plant that is loved by herbalists, but despised by gardeners, farmers, and any long haired animal. It’s typically known as a weed and grows in just about any environment across North America, Europe, and Northern Asia. The plant has long tap roots, large heart-shaped leaves, and its seed head has hooked bracts that when flowering has a pink or purple florets. It can grow up to 9 feet tall and the tap root can reach up to 4 feet into the Earth.

Burdock is known to be one of the safest, tastiest, and most effective detoxifying & cleansing herbs amongst both western and Chinese medicine. Primarily the root is used, however the seeds and leaves are used externally in poultices and salves. It is very high in antioxidants and can aid with purifying blood and lymph system, increasing circulation, and arthritis relief. Burdock supports your natural detox system by helping to remove metabolic waste. Sometimes our elimination systems such as our liver, kidneys, or colon can become stagnant or slow. Burdock can be used to remove stagnations and get our system up and running again. It also assists with emotional purging such as releasing a toxic relationship or job.

It is also one of the best herbs to use for skin problems as it can be used internally or topically. With its part in aiding the detox of the body this then promotes healthy skin. It also works directly with the sebaceous glands in our skin to promote healthy secretions. It works well with both dry and overactive sebaceous glands to find balance. Using burdock externally as a salve or poultice can help treat conditions like eczema, psoriasis, itchy or dry skin, along with other skin imbalances.

There are many ways to ingest burdock root. It has been long used to flavour sodas and root beers. It is also known as ‘gobo’ and is popular among japanese dishes. Have some fun and look up recipes to add burdock root into your diet. It can also be ingested as a tea or as a tincture.

Hibiscus plants have large flowers that come in many colours, but the vibrant red flower is most well recognized. While it’s origin is unknown, there is a long history of these flowers being picked in China, India, and the Pacific Islands.

In Hindu traditions the hibiscus flower symbolizes the goddess Kali. Kali is the embodiment of feminine power. She is everything from chaos and primal to nurturing and benevolent. The flower itself only blooms for one day on the vine reminding us that each moment is sacred.

Hibiscus is high in Vitamin C and antioxidants. With these benefits hibiscus can promote hair growth, help balance hormones, remove free radicals from the body, and help with immune function. It may also help keep the body cool, lower blood pressure, boost liver help, promote healthy body weight loss, and relieve acne.

Hibiscus works on the sacral and heart chakra as it has an affinity for love and passion. Having it around can bring more beauty, love, and passion into life. Using it can encourage intimate love of all kinds including discovering passion in life. It is known as an aphrodisiac and is often featured in love spells. Roses have been connected with Goddess for hundreds of years. In ancient Greece, they were associated with Aphrodite, the goddess of love, sensuality, and pleasure. Rose has also been associated with Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene. It has been distilled for hundreds of years around the world.

Legend has it, rose oil was discovered by accident, in India, when rose petals were added to the canals around the Taj Mahal and the heat of the sun caused the oils to separate from the petals, creating a beautiful aroma. The oil was skimmed from the water and made into a perfume.

The constituents of Rose have been found to have anti viral, anti microbial, analgesic (pain support), anti bacterial, anti-oxidant, and anti aging properties. It is also healing for skin irritation and helps to hydrate dry skin when used topically.

Rose is a womb tonic and helps to regulate the menstrual cycle.

Citrine

Citrine is from the quartz family and is sold in its natural form or as heat-treated amethyst. Natural citrine is more rare. It’s colour ranges from pale yellow to brown/grey yellow. It is formed when either amethyst or smoky quartz are heated by the Earth’s mantle. More commonly sold is heat-treated amethyst which is a vibrant yellow/orange. Amethyst is heated in a kiln to mimic the Earth’s high temperature. Whether one prefers natural or heat treated citrine is entirely up to the user! Chemically, they are the same. In Bolivia, citrine and amethyst grow together creating a unique stone called Ametrine!

Said to have the power of the sun, citrine is a stone of abundance. It teaches to manifest and attract wealth, prosperity, success, and all good things. A stone that is warming and energizing, it helps us to boost creativity, impart joy, and encourages sharing. Use it to cleanse the chakras, particularly the solar plexus. Place citrine over the solar plexus prior to meditation to balance and activate the chakra.

It is a protector of auras and environments through the absorption, transmutation, dissipation, and grounding of negative energies. Citrine itself does not require cleansing, but it can be used to help cleanse other crystals. Using it with quartz can help boost its power. Citrine can also be placed in a purse, wallet, workspace, or worn as jewelry to help attract abundance.

Calendula

Calendula is a bright orange/yellow marigold flower that originates from the mediterranean area of southern Europe and grows year round there. Today, it blooms around the world and it’s vibrant energy radiates in gardens much longer into the colder months than many other plants. Associated with the Sun and solar plexus chakra, calendula brings positivity and light to all situations while also removing negativity.

Placing dried calendula in the bath prior to bed or sprinkling around the bedroom may help bring pleasant and insightful dreams. Calendula can also aid in communication with those who have passed on. Some cultures place this herb on the gravestones of loved ones to bring them comfort, amplify spirit communication, and help keep them present in our Earth side lives.

Historically, calendula has been used to treat many skin ailments, including wound healing. This is because of its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-fungal/microbial properties. This herb played a big role during the Civil War to aid injured soldiers! It is a great addition to creams, lotions, and salves. These products are easily found in stores or could be made at home.

Orange Essential Oil

The Orange tree blesses us with three different essential oils; Orange from the peel, Neroli from the white flowers, and Petitgrain from the leaves. Native to China and India, the orange tree was brought to Europe in the 17th century and ventured onward from there. It is well known that oranges are high in Vitamin C, which is useful in warding off colds and illnesses. It can be used to calm the stomach, especially a nervous one! Add a few drops to a carrier oil and massage onto the stomach to aid in digestion.

A natural antidepressant as it brings sunshine to gloomy thoughts, dispels tension, and relieves stress. Orange essential oil encourages a positive outlook when it’s citrus scent is in the air. The orange is associated with the Sun as it is reviving, energy boosting, and brings passion. It is great for cleansing and purifying spells.

Orange is a symbol of love, joy, and luck. Dreaming of oranges is a message of incoming abundance. Add the essential oil to a diffuser or add it directly into laundry, dishes, creams. It is also a helpful additive to facial creams for skin conditions such as breakouts or into balms for pain or joint swelling.

Ashwagandha may help with a wide range of issues such as nerve regeneration, immune support, stress reduction, hormone balance & enhance sexual potency. As an adaptogen, it is an important herb in Ayurvedic medicine as it achieves balance in the body by adapting itself to either boost energy or invoke calmness.

Memory, learning, and cognitive function can improve when the body is in balance. It may also help achieve holistic rejuvenation through harmony of the chi and chakra energies. Use it to enhance Kundalini spiritual practices as it opens and strengthens the root chakra. Frankincense oil, also known as Olibanum, has a woody, spicy, slightly lemony fragrance. The oil is distilled from the Boswellia tree/bark resin originating in the Middle East, Africa, & India.

Frankincense may help reduce stress by calming the mind & nervous system and increasing mindfulness. It has also been helpful with alleviating pain, speeding up wound healing, and reducing scarring. Promoting the movement of Qi (vital energy or life force), frankincense can help to revitalize and uplift. Representing the element of fire, it can be used in spiritual rituals and meditations to help drive away negative energies.

Place drops of Frankincense oil in a carrier oil or unscented lotion to use topically or add in a diffuser.

October is a time when we begin to turn inwards as the daylight begins to fade more each day. Retreating to our homes and into ourselves. A time to cleanse ourselves and our spaces as we settle in for the changing of the seasons. Protection & immunity boosting are major themes for this month.

Chaga:

Chaga is a fungus that most commonly grows on birch trees in cold environments. It is an ancient medicine, with cultural use dating back over 5000 years ago. It has deep roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as in Russia, Poland and across Eastern Europe and the First Nations peoples of Canada.

It is a nutrient rich superfood high in antioxidants to help fight damage caused by free radicals. Aids in digestion, boosting immunity, & reducing inflammation, blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure. Chaga has high levels of naturally occurring melanin, which converts to melatonin in our bodies. This helps balance our bodies circadian rhythm, as well as activate the pineal gland to assists in opening the third eye (the chakra connected with psychic visions). Brew as a tea either hot or cold to release its healing properties.

Clove Oil:

Clove essential oil is distilled from dried flower buds from the clove tree native to Southeast Asia. Clove is beneficial for digestion, relieving respiratory symptoms, has high antioxidants & has antimicrobial properties to help kill certain bacteria. It can be used to help open the heart chakra and keep vibration high which will promote psychic protection. Use it for deeper meditation and to gain emotional clarity. Put some drops in a diffuser or dilute with a carrier oil like almond oil to apply to skin.

Black Tourmaline:

Black Tourmaline, also known as schorl, can be found all over the world. It is a highly protective crystal, providing protection against psychic attacks, EMF (electromagnetic frequencies), and negativity which helps clear thought processes to aid with decision making. It also supports all organ functions, including boosting the immune system, reducing pain, and improving metabolism.

Deeply connected to the root chakra, Black Tourmaline is extremely grounding and helps create connection between the earth and our energetic bodies. This can allow for insights from higher realms and can also help bring the user back to Earth after a healing session. Black Tourmaline can be placed around the home, especially near electronics, and be carried or worn to provide protection throughout the day. It is especially useful for gridding your house or workplace. Place near doors, windows, or other passage ways of energy flow with the intention to remove any lower vibrational energy that may make its way into the space. Make sure to cleanse Black Tourmaline often as it is highly absorptive of negative energies (use moonlight, sound, or smoke)
