Gotu Kola:

Known as the “herb of longevity” Gotu Kola has been used in ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. It is a member of the parsley family and is native to parts of Asia and the South Pacific. The shape of its leaf is said to resemble the brain, hence the cognitive effects this plant will have.

Gotu Kola is famously known to boost cognitive function, improve memory, nerve function and promote healthy hair, skin, and nails. Studies have shown gotu kola may be helpful for treating Alzheimer's disease through its ability to prevent plaque from forming on the brain. It can be used preventatively as well. This herb promotes mental alertness and sound memory.

Gotu Kola is a nervine, which means it is supports the nervous system. When taken either as a tea or supplement, this herb will build up the body's ability to deal with stressful situations. This is an excellent ally for people who experience skin breakouts due to stress. Gotu Kola will bring on feelings of calmness, contentedness and can aid insomnia.

Gotu Kola has been found to reduce fluid retention and can treat varicose veins. It is anti-inflammatory so can also relieve joint pain!

In the Himalayas, gotu kola has been used to enhance meditation and activate the crown chakra, which is the energy centre at the top of our head. The crown chakra is our connection to Source/Spirit and is our centre of divine wisdom, universal consciousness, enlightenment. Blockages of the crown chakra could manifest as: brain fog, feeling low, fatigue, mental confusion. Working with gotu kola could slowly remove any blockages of the Crown and realign that chakra.

Fluorite:

Fluorite is a common crystal found in a variety of colours like blue, green, purple, yellow, pink, or brown. It grows in a distinct geometric shape, sometimes cubic but other times as complex as an octahedron. Fluorite is found growing around the world, in Canada, the US, Mexico, Brazil, and China.

Fluorite is one of the first crystals we recommend for mental health, especially anxiety, stress, insomnia, OCD or ADHD. It has a strong ability to help one focus as it helps to organize and process information. It is a great learning aid because it increases concentration and promotes quick thinking. Fluorite has a stabilizing and balancing effect on the mind and body. It also stabilizes the aura.

This crystal will protect you from psychic manipulation and allow you to discern when outside influences are at work. It is also protective from electromagnetic stress, and EMF, which makes it a great study companion to keep next to you by the computer!

Fluorite works on belief systems and patterns of behaviour, gently opening the door of the subconscious to allow for truth to be revealed. It may also reveal suppressed emotions, or anything that needs to be acknowledged for healing of the belief systems to take place.

Peppermint essential oil can treat a variety of different issues in the body including: digestion, headaches, cold & sinuses, muscle spasms, and pain. It is antimicrobial, antiviral, and antibacterial and has a strong cooling & stimulating effect. Peppermint will open up all of your senses. When inhaled, you will feel your energy shift to become more grounded in the present moment.

Incorporate peppermint oil into part of your schoolwork or study routine as it will increase your focus and grounded presence. Use prior to journaling or a manifestation ritual to increase third eye visions and connecting to your higher Self.

Peppermint oil can be used to clear your energy and your aura. Use prior to meditation to calm anxiety and pull yourself into the present moment more fully. This oil is connected with the upper 3 chakras (throat, third eye, and crown), our energy centres of expression, spiritual visions, and unity consciousness.

Peppermint oil has been found to reduce nausea when inhaled through the nose. You can also try massaging it on your abdomen (in a carrier oil) to alleviate digestion issues and nausea. Massage peppermint oil onto your temples, neck, and shoulders to relieve migraine or tension headaches and pain.

How to use:

-Add 5-7 drops in a diffuser to infuse your space with opening and awakening energies

-Add a few drops to a carrier oil (avocado, jojoba, or fractionated coconut oil) to apply topically for headaches, body pain, and to relieve itching

-Add a few drops to a bowl of boiling water, inhale the steam to clear sinuses and headaches

**Do not take peppermint oil orally unless the oil specifies for this. Always use a carrier oil when applying peppermint oil topically as it is highly concentrated.

Ylang Ylang essential oil comes from the Canaga tree which is found in the south sea islands like Mauritius, Tahiti, Seychelles, and The Philippines. Oil is distilled from the flower of the tree to make the oil. The flowers come in pink, mauve, and yellow and only bloom at night. Ylang Ylang, meaning “flower of flowers” in Malayan, has a scent that is intensely sweet with tropical notes and exotic woody undertones.

Ylang Ylang is known to boost mood and energy, as well as relax the nervous system. This results in more joy, aids in self expression, and creates a sense of peace. It favours resolutions of disputes, even those with ourselves. Use it to find serenity within. It is well known for its aphrodisiac qualities as well as being an antidepressant, antiseptic, and may help with lowering blood pressure. It can help balance hormones and is often added to creams to help with dryness.Using Ylang Ylang oil can help bring out a fiery passion. People find its scent soothing, euphoric, and erotic. It can help awaken sexuality, especially the feminine side. It can be used in infertility spells and to increase libido.

Some people may find the scent of Ylang Ylang to be too strong. It can be blended with lemon or bergamot to lighten the fragrance. Adding Ylang Ylang to a diffuser can help bring a sense of calm to the space. Burning it as an incense stick or in a diffuser after an argument is a great way to promote reconciliation. It can be added to any creams, shampoos, or oils. It’s a beautiful addition to an evening bath, especially a bath for two.

Carnelian:

Carnelian largely comes from India, but can also be found all over the world. It was called the 'sunset stone' by the ancient Egyptians because of its fiery hues. Most typically found in an orange to red colour, but it can also range from pink to brown. Carnelian focuses its power on physical vitality. It aids with stimulating muscles and keeping oxygen flowing through the body. This can help with lower back problems as well as flushing out organs to aid with detox. Orange carnelian in particular may help boost fertility and increase libido. Use it to light your own inner fire and explore your sexual power.

Carnelian focuses on the heart and sacral chakra which promotes vitality, creativity, and grounding in the present moment. Warriors once wore carnelian for courage. Today it can be used to encourage us to find new adventures and add fun & spontaneity to our lives. It can give us the motivational boost to create new projects or see new ways of tackling old projects. Use carnelian to free yourself from expectations and try new things. Sing, paint, dance, be free and allow its healing properties to help energize the side of you that wants to explore. Luckily, carnelian also has protective qualities and keeps you safe from envy, rage, and resentment.

Clean carnelian frequently as it will absorb the negative energy from other crystals. This is great for other crystals in your collection, but just requires a little more attention to keep it in its optimal state to transmute its energy freely. Use any regular method for cleansing crystals that you prefer, smoke, water, or sound. You can wear it as jewelry, or place it in your home or on your altar. These plants grow in Central and South America and have been used for thousands of years, particularly by the Mayans, both in ceremony and for its health benefits.

Cacao is packed with flavonoids, which help lower blood pressure, improve blood flow to the brain and heart, as well as aid in prevention of blood clots. It contains many essential vitamins and minerals. With the increased blood flow to the brain, cacao improves brain power and the ability to complete cognitive tasks. Often known as “stinging nettle” because its tiny hairs will give you a bite if you grab the living plant without gloves. This sting will be eliminated either through cooking or drying the plant. Nettle is a herb found growing almost globally. It is easily found in forests, meadows, and often even beside roads and walkways. It is known to grow quickly and spread widely. In different cultures around the wild they are used for textiles, foods, and medicine, including treating allergies.

Every part of the nettle plant is used from its leaf, to the roots, and even the seeds. It is full of vitamins and minerals, especially iron and calcium. It is used for a multitude of issues including gout, anemia, exhaustion, skin problems, hay fever and other allergies, and rheumatism. It is thought to be helpful for children’s “growing pains” as well as the “creaky joints” of the elderly thanks to its antihistamine properties as well as its ability to improve circulation. Nettle has a positive effect on the liver and adrenals, in addition it is an excellent reproductive tonic for both men and women. The root is helpful with prevention and curation of prostate issues and the leaves as useful for PMS and menopausal issues. Not to be ingested if pregnant. There are many recipes available online to incorporate nettle into your kitchen routine from pestos, to soups, to teas.

Raspberries are most commonly recognized in their beautiful red colour, but they are also found in many colours from yellow to black. You probably know of some wild raspberry bushes close to home as they are tenacious growers that don’t play by any rules. The berries can be used for medicine as well as a natural dye, while the leaves are used in teas in both traditional and herbal healers.

Raspberry leaf is high in magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, niacin, and vitamins B, C, and E. These help produce healthy connective tissue. Raspberry leaf is an astringent herb and is a highly nourishing reproductive tonic that provides nutrients to tone and strengthen both reproductive and urinary systems. It is especially valued during pregnancy. Astringent herbs tighten and tone tissues which in turn reduces excess discharge and holds moisture within the body. This is very helpful in stopping diarrhea.

Clary Sage Essential Oil

Not to be mistaken for common or white sage as clary sage has its own unique properties. Clary essential oil has a herbal, nutty fragrance.

Clary sage is widely known to be beneficial for women’s health. It can help regulate the menstrual cycle by balancing hormones and stimulating opening of blocked systems. This can help normalize irregular periods. It may also help relieve some menstrual symptoms such as bloating, cramps, mood swings, and cravings. Often due to our diets we can find an excess of estrogen within the body. Clary sage helps cut this excess in estrogen which allows hormonal balance to be achieved. It can help with sexual problems by controlling underlying stress and therefore has positive effect on male and female fertility. Clary sage has many benefits for the transition from mother to crone. Can help relieve symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, irritability, and palpitations.

Another common use of clary sage is for relaxation and stress reduction. When in a relaxed state, we can combat insomnia, reduce headaches, improve circulation, reduce cholesterol, promote skin health, and aid digestion. When it comes to indigestion, clary sage increases gastric fluids to speed up digestion. This then improves symptoms like bloating, cramping, and abdominal discomfort. Labradorite is a very high vibrational crystal and is most commonly found in Finland and Canada and its colour appears gray to black until it catches the light. Burdock

Burdock is a tenacious wild plant that is loved by herbalists, but despised by gardeners, farmers, and any long haired animal. It’s typically known as a weed and grows in just about any environment across North America, Europe, and Northern Asia. The plant has long tap roots, large heart-shaped leaves, and its seed head has hooked bracts that when flowering has a pink or purple florets. It can grow up to 9 feet tall and the tap root can reach up to 4 feet into the Earth.

Burdock is known to be one of the safest, tastiest, and most effective detoxifying & cleansing herbs amongst both western and Chinese medicine. Primarily the root is used, however the seeds and leaves are used externally in poultices and salves. It is very high in antioxidants and can aid with purifying blood and lymph system, increasing circulation, and arthritis relief. Burdock supports your natural detox system by helping to remove metabolic waste. Sometimes our elimination systems such as our liver, kidneys, or colon can become stagnant or slow. Burdock can be used to remove stagnations and get our system up and running again. It also assists with emotional purging such as releasing a toxic relationship or job.

It is also one of the best herbs to use for skin problems as it can be used internally or topically. With its part in aiding the detox of the body this then promotes healthy skin. It also works directly with the sebaceous glands in our skin to promote healthy secretions. It works well with both dry and overactive sebaceous glands to find balance. Using burdock externally as a salve or poultice can help treat conditions like eczema, psoriasis, itchy or dry skin, along with other skin imbalances.
